COCONUT MILK & CREAM

COCONUT MILK & CREAM - OVERVIEW

Coconut milk is a creamy , plant-based liquid made by blending the grated flesh of mature coconuts with water and then straining it. It is widely used in cooking across Southeast Asian, Caribbean, and other cuisines for curries, soups, sauces, desserts, and beverages. Coconut cream is a thicker, richer, more concentrated form of coconut milk. It is either made by simmering coconut flesh with less water or by skimming the fatty, creamy layer that rises to the top of chilled coconut milk. Because of this, coconut cream has higher fat and calorie content and a richer texture than coconut milk.

HEALTH BENEFITS:

Coconut milk and cream contain beneficial nutrients such as medium‑chain triglycerides (MCTs), lauric acid, potassium, magnesium, iron, and other vitamins and minerals. MCTs may be used quickly for energy, and lauric acid is associated with potential antimicrobial effects. Some studies suggest that coconut products may help support healthy cholesterol levels by increasing HDL (“good”) cholesterol, though they are also high in saturated fats, so moderation is recommended. Coconut milk is dairy‑free, lactose‑free, and suitable for vegan diets, and can be used as an alternative to dairy in many recipes.
